Richard Hardaway

Clyde, Richard Wayne Hardaway, age 78, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home & Rehabilitation.

Richard was born in Lynn, Arkansas on October 20, 1940 to Robert D. and Amy Josephine Adams Hardaway.  He moved to Palm Beach County, Florida with his parents at age five.  Richard was a graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and was an elementary school teacher.  His favorite pastime was playing guitar and banjo, and he taught evening school classes in guitar and 5-string banjo and gave private music lessons.   Richard’s hobby and passion were bluegrass music and he loved attending bluegrass music programs and festivals.  In the early 1970’s he formed a bluegrass band, The Bluegrass Ramblers, in which he played 5-string banjo as well as guitar.  The band loved singing and playing music, specifically bluegrass gospel, and brought enjoyment to many people over the years.  Richard was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, Waynesville, North Carolina.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, father in 1997, and mother in 2001.

Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marlene Pfile Hardaway.  They moved to Haywood County, North Carolina in December 2003, where they had spent many vacations over the years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m.  on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Williams and Reverend Josh Frazier officiating.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
