Maggie Valley, Richard Alger Brockmiller, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 23, 2018.
Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan, January 27, 1937 to the late Alger Frederick and Doris Belle Adams Brockmiller. He was raised in Lake Worth, Florida attending Lake Worth High School and then Stetson University in Deland, Florida. Upon leaving Stetson University, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany at the time the Berlin Wall was erected. After his discharge he went on to work for AT&T as an Installation Specialist. Many of his assignments were government related including installation of NASA tracking systems. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Maggie Valley where they enjoyed many happy years in the North Carolina Mountains.
Anyone meeting Richard immediately would recognize his affable personality and friendly demeanor. Getting to know him was to know a quirky, fun and eccentric personality. He was a quiet man with deep intelligence, carefully exploring the world around him. He had a wonderful relationship with Margie, respecting all her interests and loving her from the day they met.
Richard was married for 48 years to his beautiful wife, Margaret, who died on February 5, 2018.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Virginia Lynn McKenna and her husband, Chet, of Garland, Texas; sister, Dian Brockmiller, of Houston, Texas; brother, Larry Brockmiller, of Newport News, Virginia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers his family ask that you spend those funds to enjoy a special evening with the ones you love.
The care of Mr. Brockmiller has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
