Reverend Carl Chastain

Canton – Reverend Carl Chastain, 85, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his residence.

Carl was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood and was a son of the late Dave and Evelyn Trantham Chastain.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Chastain.  Carl pastored 12 different churches in Haywood County for a total of 65 plus years in God’s ministry.  He enjoyed his cattle, farming and gardening.  Most of all, Carl loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Burnette Chastain; two sons, David Chastain and wife, Patty, and Rick Chastain and wife, Cindy, all of Canton; one sister, Ruby; two grandchildren, Reverend Kyle Chastain and wife, Ashley, of Concord and Angela Chastain Strum of Wilmington; and four great-grandchildren, Hudson and Oliver Chastain, Emily and Alaina Strum.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with his grandson the Reverend Kyle Chastain officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  A private burial will be held at Morning Star Community Cemetery.
