Waynesville, Reverend Johnny Henry Swanger, Jr., age 68, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 27, 2018.
A native of Haywood County he was the son of the late John H. and Geneva Palmer Swanger. Johnny was a man amongst men. He was a skilled worker, a loving father, a faithful husband, and a true friend and mentor to many. Johnny was a devoted preacher and pastor to many people across Western North Carolina, in particular, he served as pastor at Balsam Baptist for over 22 years. He was kind hearted, meek, but strong. Johnny never met a stranger, and never failed to show Christ to the world around him.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Swanger; daughter, Kim Postell, and her husband, Phillip, of Tuckasegee; son, Reverend John Swanger, III, and his wife, Michelle, of Waynesville; sister, Darlene Chandler, and her husband, Tommy, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Alex, Hayden, Jacob, and his wife, Caylie and Hattie; one great-grandchild, Gatlyn; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John H. Swanger, III and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
