Retty Hall Davis

Retty Hall Davis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Born on July 2, 1928, in Haywood County, Retty lived a life characterized by hard work, strong values, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.

For twelve years, Retty devoted her efforts to Gerber as a food processor, but her heart truly belonged to the land. Along with her husband, Eugene Davis, she was a lifelong dairy farmer, a vocation that instilled in her a deep respect for honest work and the natural world. Retty’s dedication to the farm and her family was matched only by her kindness; she was known to be "GOOD" to everyone, always extending her welcoming spirit and open door to those in need.

Retty took great pride in caring for her mother, lovingly referred to as "Maw," showcasing her nurturing nature that transcended beyond the familial boundaries. Her love for literature, particularly her enjoyment of reading books and Readers Digest, added another layer to her rich and fulfilling life.

Retty is survived by two daughters, Cathey Rymer (Steve) of Leicester and Susan Star (Eddie) of Hendersonville; one son, Ralph Davis of Leicester; and one sister, Charlotte of Canton. She was the cherished grandmother of five, including Stacy Morrow, Timothy Morrow, Brooke Star, Jeremy Rymer, and Cameron Rymer; and a proud great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delone and Mallie Penland Hall, as well as her beloved husband, Eugene Davis. Retty was also preceded by her son, Lyndon Davis, and her sisters, Jessie Reynolds, Florence Worley, Christine Stevens, Clarsie Norman, and her twin sister, Betty Hensley; and brothers Earl Hall, Loren Hall, Billy Hall, and Alfred Hall.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.

Retty Hall Davis will be remembered not only for her contributions to her family and community but also for the warmth and love she extended to all. Her legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
