Ray Parton

June 8, 1928 — March 31, 2015

Waynesville, Ray A. Parton, age 86, of Potleg Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Paul and Minnie Moody Parton; and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Parton, who died in 2009; a daughter, Sandra Dale Parton; a twin brother, Roe Parton; and three sisters, Verbena Moody, Pauline Carver and Leila Long. Ray retired from the Dayco Corporation and was a member of Hemphill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Ray cherished his time outdoors, whether he was mowing the lawn, tending his lush garden or fishing his favorite streams. He was truly an outdoorsman. Ray is survived by two daughters, Linda Walton and her husband, Edward, of Gaffney, South Carolina and Jennifer Parton of Canton; six grandchildren, Teri, Summer and Bronson Cook, Michela Mann and Devona and Eric Walton; and seven great-grandchildren, Eli and Ella Walton, Caitlyn Fuller, Jaci and Kenzie Cook, Myra Crowe and Brynlee Mann. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Hemphill Baptist Church with Reverend Jake Cagle and Reverend Craig Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
