Phoebe Hooper

Cullowhee, Phoebe Revis Hooper, 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Silver Bluff Villages.

A native of Whittier, and longtime resident of Cullowhee, Phoebe was the daughter of the late Robert Lon and Amy Bumgarner Revis.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrell E. Hooper, who died in 2009; daughter, Dr. Janice Holt; seven brothers, Paul, Howard, Bruce, Kenneth, Johnny, Olen, and Jack Revis; two sisters, Georgia and Inez.  Phoebe was a retired kindergarten teacher assistant at Fairview Elementary School in Sylva.  She was a lifelong member of the Cullowhee Baptist Church.

Phoebe is survived by her daughters, Dianne Chadwick (Ray) and Cynthia Hooper; six grandchildren, Matthew Chadwick (Nina), Sarah Deal (Wes), David Holt (Adrian), Adam Holt (Kristin), Abigail Reich and Caroline Reich (Evan Britton); nine great-grandchildren, Drew, Caleb, and Nathan Chadwick, Lily and Josiah Holt, AJ Hawkins (Ally), Addison, Alyvia, and Alizabeth Holt; sisters, Shirley Moses and Betty Taylor; sisters-in-law Peggy Revis, Gail Revis, and Nancy Revis; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Cullowhee Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Vickery and Reverend Tonya Vickery officiating.  Burial will follow at Cullowhee Baptist Church Cemetery.  A gathering of friends will be held from 1:00 until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Janice Hooper Holt Scholarship, Western Carolina University, University Advancement, One University Drive, 201 H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Cullowhee, NC  28723.

The care of Mrs. Hooper has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
