Phoebe Dean Burleson

Phoebe Dean Burleson, lovingly known as Phoebe, left us with cherished memories of her remarkable life. She was born on February 15, 1954, in Haywood County to her father, Floyd Fullbright and her precious mother, Gertrude Fullbright. Phoebe peacefully passed away on January 2, 2024, at Haywood Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 69 years old.

Phoebe dedicated several years of her life to the nursing profession, retiring in 2016 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Throughout her career, she had the privilege of working with esteemed physicians such as Dr. Rufus Thomas of Blue Ridge Dermatology, Dr. Guy Abbott, and Dr. Fred Wenzel. Her devotion to caring for others shone brightly in every role she undertook.

Outside of work, Phoebe found solace and joy in various hobbies and interests. She possessed a green thumb and delighted in tending to her beautiful flower garden. Exploring new culinary experiences brought excitement to her life, as she adored going to Ammonds and trying new restaurants alongside her beloved husband, Bruce Burleson. Nothing made Phoebe happier than spending time with her nieces, nephews, family, and her beloved cat, George. She spent her life making sure they knew how much they were loved.

Phoebe's adventurous spirit led her to explore different parts of the country alongside Bruce. Their travels took them from Anniston, AL to Springfield, VA, Fargo, ND to Honolulu, HI, and Herndon, VA. Each journey was filled with laughter and countless precious memories.

In mourning the loss of Phoebe, we find comfort in the memories and love she shared with her surviving family. Bruce, her beloved husband of 43 years, will forever hold her close in his heart. She is also survived by her mother, Gertrude Fullbright; sister, Diane Baker; brother, John Fullbright; her niece, Krista King (Nicholas King) of Ellenboro, NC; her niece, Amy Garner (Benjamin Garner) of Waynesville, NC; her great-nieces, Madeline King, of Raleigh, NC, Josie Edwards (Zane Edwards) of Waynesville, NC, and Lydia King, of Ellenboro, NC; and a great-nephew; Jeb Garner.  Phoebe was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Fullbright, her brother, Stanley Fullbright, and brother-in-law, David Baker.
