Philip Joe Hipps
Canton-Philip Joe Hipps, 89, passed away on September 21, 2022, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
He was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Mailey Kermy and Addie Plemmons Hipps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dessa Kathleen Hipps, who died in 2013; sister, Katherine Medford; and brother, Carleson Hipps.
Philip retired from Champion International after 27 years of service and was member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran and enjoyed bowling, especially when he had a perfect score of 300. Philip also enjoyed NASCAR and Pisgah football games. He also coached little league baseball.
He is survived by two daughters; Lynn Howell (John), and Shelia McClure; two sons; Eddy McClure (Janice) and Gary McClure (Candi); and a sister, Gail Shope (James “Red”); three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens . The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 pm prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
