Peter A. Welling

Waynesville, Peter A. Welling, 72, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at his home.

A native of Maryland, he found himself living in Melrose Massachusetts before becoming a resident of Haywood County for the past 10 years. 

He is the son of the late Major General Alvin Welling & Nancy Crawford Welling.

Peter graduated from MIT in 1972.  He was an Electrical Engineer at C.S. Draper Laboratories at Cambridge, MA for 25+ years.  He was a member of Grace Church in the Mountains where he was also a member of the choir.  He enjoyed reading, hiking, he was an avid swimmer and was a Civil War Buff.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula Burgess Welling, two daughters, Sarah Venuti (Father Matthew Venuti) and Louise Schnagl (Jason); one sister, Mary Schaller (Martin); one brother, Brent Welling (Shereen); four grandchildren, Peter Venuti, Henry Venuti, Felicity Schnagl, and Jeremy Schnagl.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Church In The Mountains at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the memorial fund at Grace Church In The Mountains, 394 N. Haywood St., Waynesville, NC  28786.
