Peggy Woodard

Waynesville, Peggy Cathey Woodard, 60, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Mission Hospital. Peggy was born in Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Wiggins Cathey. She attended Swain County High School and excelled in athletics. Her favorite sports were basketball and softball. She held a basketball record at the school for many years. Peggy enjoyed golfing, hiking, camping and traveling and was also a fan of the Carolina Panthers and NASCAR. She was of the Baptist faith. Peggy is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Smith and husband, Trey, of Waynesville and Angie Woodard of Wilmington; two sisters, Susie Cathey Trotter and husband, David, of Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Annie Cathey; two brothers, Jerry Cathey of Charlotte and Jim Crawford of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Tyler, Dalton, Tanner, Brody and Mollie and another one due in September; one great-grandson, Carson; and a special friend, Jim Moore. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. A reception will follow at Wells Events & Reception Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cape Fear Gospel Rescue Mission, P. O. Box 1175, Wilmington, NC 28401.
