Canton –Peggy Varner Pless, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Elsie Rogers Varner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Pless, who died in 2006 and two sisters, Glenna Hawkins and Blanche Sharp. Peggy was a life-long member of Morning Star United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the building team and was very active in her church. She loved to cook, sew and travel.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Cope and husband, J.R., of Waynesville; one son, David Pless and wife, Genean, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Jeff Cope and wife, Kim, of Charleston, South Carolina, Amanda Walls and husband, Tony, of Bryson City, Travis Cope and wife, Ashly, of Bend, Oregon, Joni Mease and husband, Justin, of Waynesville, and Matthew Pless and his wife, Brittany of Waynesville; and 10 great-grandchildren; Sarah Walls, Ben Walls, Ella and Charlie Cope, Scarlett and, Posie Cope, Jake, Luke, and Sawyer Mease and Warren Pless.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Nicole Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
