Sylva/Canton – Peggy Jean Wolfe Morgan, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
Born on June 14, 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Roy Monroe Wolfe and Ottie Dillingham Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Donald Clinton Morgan, who passed away in 2015; a grandson, Nicholas Morgan; sisters, Ethel Caudle, Vernell McGinn, Thelma Berryhill, Lula Whitlock, Flora McClure, and Cirrie Kendall; and a brother, Roy M. Wolfe, Jr. Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sylva, NC and was a current member of Canton Presbyterian Church. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated from Mercy Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1951. She was a registered nurse and a certified North Carolina Teacher. She taught and was instrumental in founding the Health Occupations Program at Sylva Webster High School. Mrs. Morgan was awarded the Educator of the Year Award from Jackson County Chamber of Commerce in 1974.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Brad Morgan and his wife, Sally, of Canton, and Andrew Morgan, and Jeffery Morgan, both of Sylva; grandchildren, Megan Brose (Darin) of Lolo, Montana, Molly Stroud (Dan) of Huntersville, North Carolina, Jessica Morgan, and Jennifer Davidson (Todd), all of Sylva, Mica Messer (Treagon) of Snellville, Georgia, and Alex Morgan (Katlin) of Sylva; great grandchildren, McKinley and Web Stroud, Brecklyn Brose, Avery Davidson, Nicholas Morgan, and Maci Messer; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Sylva Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Blake Daniel, Reverend Esta Jarrett, and Reverend Riley Covin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. She will be honored by the North Carolina Nurses Honor Guard.
