Peggy Childers

Peggy Skidmore Childers died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital. A native of Swain County, she was a daughter of the late, Olie J. and Lillian Dale Thomas Skidmore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Childers; and several brothers and sisters. Peggy taught a special education class and drove a school bus for Erwin Middle School where she retired in 2003. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Peggy, first and foremost, loved the Lord and her family. She is survived by a daughter, Terri Childers Trantham and husband, Philip; two sons, Alan Childers and wife, Bronya, Ashley Childers and wife, Rebecca; three sisters, Bertha Fish, Mary Tipton, and Carolyn Marler; three brothers, James, Gene, and Luther Skidmore; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ricky Gibson and the Reverend R.H. "Bud" Lance officiating. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
