Paul Reeves Leatherwood

April 21, 1929 — May 10, 2023


Clyde - Paul Reeves Leatherwood, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at The Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center.


Paul was a native of Haywood County and raised by his beloved grandparents, the late Marcus “Mark” and Martha “Mattie” Leatherwood. In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by his first spouse, Mary Nicholson Leatherwood and his late spouse, Cleo Buchanan Spencer Leatherwood.


Paul graduated from Clyde High School in 1947 and went on to serve as Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps where he was duty stationed at Parris Island, Camp Pendleton, Pearl Harbor, Tsingtao, China, and later Quantico, Virginia.  He retired from Champion International Paper after 37 years with the company in 1995. Paul was an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues within Haywood County.  He was also a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the Duke Blue Devils basketball team. Paul was a gentle, selfless, and kind soul whom will be missed immensely. 


Paul is survived by his stepdaughter, Claudia Sentelle Ange and husband, Dr. Charles Ange of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Joan Medford Morrison of Canton; grandsons, Sean and Eric Ange, both of Knoxville, Tennessee; and great-grandson Gavin Ange of Charlotte, North Carolina. 


A ‘private’ graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Mike Hicks officiating.  Grandson, Sean Ange eulogized.  


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Drive Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
