Paul Pressley

Canton- Paul Lucious Pressley- age 88 went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 10, 2005 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Harley and Carrie Motes Pressley. He was preceded in death his wife Betty Harkins Pressley who died in October, 1973; one sister, Pearl Mann and one brother, Mark Pressley. Mr. Pressley was employed by Champion International Papers as a jitney driver for 33 years and was a member of Thickety Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a very loving father and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and his animals. He also loved playing the guitar and mandolin. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Lynne Pope and her husband Tommy of Canton and Elaine Recotta and her husband John of Redding, CA; one sister, Ruby Bonham of Canton; one brother John Pressley of Chicago, Illinois; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Kevin Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors conducted by Canton VFW Post 5198. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silver Bluff Activities Department, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
