Clyde

Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather

Clyde, NC, Paul Reeves Owens, 86, passed away in the early hours of Monday, January 30, 2023.

Born May 1, 1937, he was a lifelong resident of Haywood County.  Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Reeves and Nellie Owens, his wife of 59 years Shirley Garrett Owens, his eldest son, Jeffrey Paul Owens and his brothers Reid and Thomas and sister Cathleen.

Paul was a husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all.  He was a hard worker and retired from Champion International in Canton with over 30 years of service. Paul’s true joy came from his relationship with the Lord, and spending time laughing with his grandsons and watching them grow up. Even in his most difficult days, Paul always had a smile on his face and a kind word for anyone he encountered.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Greg Owens; grandsons, Gavin and Gage Owens, of Asheville; and daughter-in-law, Amie Owens, of Franklin and several nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Paul’s family would like to send a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Silver Bluff Nursing Facility for the care and compassion shown to Paul throughout his several years stay and especially for his end of life care.

Due to the fact that there were public health concerns at the time of Shirley Owens’ passing in April 2020, a visitation honoring both Paul and Shirley Owens will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.

The care of Mr. Owens has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
