Hendersonville formerly of Canton – Paul Eugene Rogers, 89, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Grover and Fannie Redmond Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Roe Rogers; and two sisters, Lucille Francis and Annette Rhinehart. Paul was a 1947 graduate of Clyde High School and attended Western Carolina University, graduating in 1958, following his serving in the United States Navy.
Paul accepted a position, in 1963, with the Robertson Y.M.C.A. in Canton and was named President in 1967, where he implemented many activities as well as teaching swimming to many in the community. His community service was far reaching, including civic clubs and numerous boards and councils, as well as many summers spent managing the activities of Camp Hope.
After his time with the YMCA, Paul joined Dayco Corporation where he served as company safety director. He was appointed to serve as President of the Western Carolina Safety Council by Governor James B. Hunt, Jr., in 1981.
Upon Paul’s retirement, the family moved to Hendersonville, where they have since resided.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Allen Rogers and one son, Steven A. Rogers of Prattville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Charles Rogers and Brianna Baker; five great-grandchildren, Fairlight Baker, Charles, Jacob, Atlas and Myles Rogers; and several nieces and nephews, including Jewell Beall, Frances King and Patsy Underwood.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul D. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
