Canton – Richard Paul Erwin, 93, of the Bethel community, passed away on June 10, 2022 at his residence.
Paul was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Reverend Tom and Maggie Long Erwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy and Harmon Erwin: and one sister, Grace Lane. In 1991, Paul retired with 45 years of service from Dayco and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He served as deacon at both Riverside and Bethel Baptist Churches, volunteered along with his wife, Peggy, with Meals on Wheels, and on the Bethel Community Cemetery Committee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Peggy Medford Erwin; five daughters, Paula Crowe and Sue Morgan (Frank), all of Canton, Janne Hyde of Lake Junaluska, Patricia Blaylock, and Myra Stone (James), all of Canton; one son, John Mark Erwin (Teresa) of Canton; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Ira, Joshua, Paul, Wesley, Olivia, Christy, Cassie, and a special granddaughter, Melody; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Bethel Community Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Terrell and Mr. James Stone officiating. Melody Franks will deliver the Eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 154 Kelly Springs Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
