Patsy Messer

Waynesville, Patsy Blakley Messer, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 7, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family.

A native of Haywood County she was a daughter of the late Burton and Frankie Caldwell Blakley.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Ray Messer; two brothers, Pete and Jack Blakley; a niece, Angie Scarlette Swaim; a brother-in-law, Bill Jones; and a special cousin, Sally Trantham. Patsy was a member of Jonathan Valley Baptist church and enjoyed reading her Bible. She could often be found volunteering at her church, Bethel Christian Academy, and with Meals on Wheels, she always wanted to help others. Patsy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she took great care in loving and tending to her children.

Patsy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Verlin Messer, Sr.; two daughters, Deborah Jean Gajich (Lawrence) and Margaret Elizabeth Watson (Christopher); two sons, James Burton Messer (Christie) and Verlin Messer, Jr. (Kathryn); two sisters, Nell Jones and Joyce Jenkins (Donald); five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 10, 2022 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. A graveside committal will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Blankenship Cemetery in Bryson City. A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jonathan Valley Baptist Church Missionary Fund at 3817 Jonathan Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28785, as well as Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care at 13 Haywood Office Park, Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.

The care of Mrs. Messer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
