Patricia Marie Hopper Foster, age 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, quiet strength, and a life devoted to caring for others.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, on July 23, 1952, Patricia was the daughter of the late Ralph Thomas Hopper, Sr. and Audrey "Susie" Bryan Hopper. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Buckner, and her brothers, Michael Hopper and Ralph Thomas Hopper, Jr.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Bradford Foster of Mars Hill; her sister, Debra Root (Jeremy) of Waverly, Tennessee; her brothers, Donald Hopper of Hendersonville and Ricky Hopper of Spindale; her beloved grandchildren, Kendal, Grace, Nadia, Kaiah, and Casen; and her niece, Jamie Buckner.

Patricia graduated from North Buncombe High School with the Class of 1970 before earning her nursing degree from AB-Tech. She answered a calling to serve others through a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, caring for patients at Mission Hospital's Emergency Department, Mountain Area Pediatrics, and also in Family Planning with the Buncombe County Health Department. Whether comforting an anxious child, helping a patient through a difficult moment, or offering reassurance with a gentle smile, Patricia approached every person with dignity, kindness, and genuine concern. Nursing was not simply what she did, it was a reflection of who she was.

Those who knew Patricia will remember a woman whose heart was always turned toward others. She possessed a rare gift for making people feel seen and valued. Curious about the lives of those around her, she never hesitated to ask how someone was doing or to reach out with a thoughtful phone call just to check in. Her selfless spirit, warm presence, and beautiful eyes made lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She gave generously of herself, often putting the needs of others ahead of her own, asking for little in return.

When she wasn't caring for family, friends, or patients, Patricia found comfort in the pages of a good mystery novel. She loved getting lost in a story and cherished the loyal companionship of her beloved dachshunds, whose unconditional affection brought her great joy.

Her greatest treasure, however, was her family. She delighted in keeping close to those she loved, celebrating their joys, easing their burdens, and reminding them through simple acts of kindness that they were never alone. The love she poured into others became the quiet thread that held so many lives together.

Patricia was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church, where her humble faith was reflected not only in her words, but in the way she lived each day, with grace, generosity, and a servant's heart.

Though her gentle voice has grown still, the countless lives she touched continue to bear witness to a life well lived. Her compassion will be remembered in every kindness shared because of her example, every life she comforted through her work, and every heart that was made lighter simply because Patricia cared.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Buncombe County Humane Society or a local animal shelter, honoring Patricia's lifelong love for animals.

The care of Ms. Foster has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
