Patrice "Patti" Swanger Green, 81, of Canton, NC, passed into Glory on July 11. She was the third of four siblings, born and raised in Canton. She attended Patton Grammar School and Canton High School.

She was a cashier at Ingles in Waynesville for 27 years, where her faithful customers lined up down the aisles for her to wait on them, despite many other open cashiers. In later years, she was a much sought-after caregiver for the elderly.

She loved to sit on her porch, look at her flowers, watch the many birds on her feeders and look for the deer that often came into the yard.

She was the daughter of John and Edith Swanger of Canton. She was preceded in death by her son, Alex Hardin. Also by her brother, Joe Bob Swanger, her brother Gary Swanger and his wife, Betty Swanger, her niece, Robin Swanger Baker, and her sister, Mitzi Rogers.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James "Bud" Green. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jill Hardin Ward and Talmadge "Tink" Ward; her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Allyson Poole Hardin; stepson Jamie Green and wife, Revonda; stepson David Green and wife, Vivian. Survived also by sister-in-law Joan Swanger (Joe Bob); brother-in-law Allen Rogers (Mitzi); sister-in-law, Pat Palliva; and sister-in-law, Ruth Haskett (Wade).

She became a Mamaw at the young age of 37. She was a wonderful, much loved Mamaw to Traie Ward, Alexis Ward Trammell (Drew), Jillian Ward English, Brittany Green Shelton (Jacob), Travis Green (Valerie), Austin Green (Haley), Seth Hardin (Aryn), Tyler Hardin, Logan Hardin, Tanner Green (Kaitlyn) and William Hutchby.

She was Mamaw Patti to 13 great-grandchildren: Noah Choate, Lyla Trammell, Eden Trammell, Jace Green, Oliver English, Everette Shelton, Amelia English, Adelaide Trammell, Judah Trammell, Eliza Green, Delaney Hardin, Eli Green, and Alara Hardin.

She also had several very special and dear nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Wells Funeral Home, Canton. Pallbearers are grandsons Traie Ward, Seth Hardin, Tyler Hardin, Logan Hardin, nephew Mark Swanger, and dear friend Travis Greene.

Honorary Pallbearers are nephew Gary Gene Swanger, cousin Mike Robinson, former boss and adopted son, Jeff Henderson, and stepsons Jamie and David Green.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 16th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Funeral service will be on Friday, July 17th at 1:00 pm, at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road.
