Melita Clark Burnette, 95, of Candler, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Gorman and Lillie Anders Clark. Melita was employed by Sears and Roebuck in their Credit Department for many years. She was also employed by Whitehall and Kay’s Jewelry companies after her retirement from Sears.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace “Ken” Burnette and in more recent years, her siblings, Charles and Doyle Clark, Vergie Williams, Gladys Wilson, Louise Israel, and “adopted” grandson, Worth Green.

Melita was a very fun-loving woman with a lot of spunk and spirit. She was always “ young at heart” and enjoyed being around family and friends whenever she got the chance.

She is survived by other nieces, nephews, and many friends, neighbors, and caregivers that she also claimed as family.

Melita will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
