Nellie Paxton

Canton – Nellie Marie Hyde Paxton, 97, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

Nellie was a native of Swain County but had resided in Haywood for most of her life and was a daughter of the late Bob and Martha Carson Hyde.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Memphis Edgar Paxton, Jr., who died in 2008; a son, Michael Terry Paxton; and a daughter, Nanette Rimmer.  Nellie was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Randy Paxton and wife, Christie, of Canton; three granddaughters, Katie Paxton, Kim Whetstone, and Amy Sheppard; one grandson, Robert Sheppard; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Webb and Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating.  Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road.  The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Projects, 2177 Asheville Road, Waynesville, NC  28786.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Silver Bluff Nursing Home and CarePartners Hospice for the wonderful care that Nellie received.
