Ned Jones

Beloved Haywood County resident Ned Jones, 95, of Waynesville went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family at home on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023. He was born in Waynesville to Robert Lee Jones and Ella Mae Caldwell on June 20, 1928, and lived in Haywood County all his life because it’s the best place on earth.

Ned served in the United States Army as a cook from 1950 to 1952, which resulted in him making the best Thanksgiving turkey and dressing every year since. After returning home from the service, he married the love of his life, Willie Jean Trammell and they spent 71 years together.

Ned was a graduate of Blanton’s Business College (Asheville) in 1956 with a degree in accounting.  Ned owned his own business preparing taxes and providing accounting services for many local residents and businesses. He loved to fish, hunt, and play pool and cards. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his wife and friends.

He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. Ned was known for his kindness, intelligence, and happy demeanor. He told stories about life, and he made life more interesting.  Ned will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Willie Jean Jones; son Terry Jones (Lot); daughter Cathy Cordray; son Bruce Jones; grandchildren Danny Jones (Rachel), Jennifer, Kimberly (Seth), Kevin Cordray, and Eric Snyder; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Ernest, Louise, Billy, Margaret, Evelyn, and Shirley; and son-in-law Linwood “Buzz” Cordray.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to service at Wells Funeral Home, 296 N Main St, Waynesville, NC.

The family would like to thank the Four Seasons Hospice for the compassionate care he received in his final days.

The care of Mr. Jones has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
