Waynesville, Ned Caldwell, age 87, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Care Partners Solace Center.
A native of Haywood County he was a son of the late John and Julie Cagle Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Ned was a member of Old Pathway Baptist Church and was a man of his word and firmly believed if a job wasn’t done right, it wasn’t worth doing. In his earlier years, Ned owned and operated Spur Gas Station on the corner of Depot Street. It was his love of farming and tending to his rhododendrons that led to his 30-year business, Caldwell Nursery. He was honest, hardworking and cherished his family.
Ned is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Mathis, and her husband, Ronnie, of Waynesville and Linda Mitchell, and her husband, Larry, of Leicester; three sons, Jack Caldwell, and his wife, Susan, of Waynesville, Ned Caldwell, Jr., and his wife, Donna, of Canton and Dale Caldwell, and his wife, Glenda, of Waynesville; sister, Martha Caldwell, of Alabama; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Phillip Wyatt, officiating. Burial will follow at Allison Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
