Canton - Nancy Jean Cook Carter, 85, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Forest and Carrie Margaret Blaylock Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Cook. Nancy Jean graduated from Bethel High School, was an active member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and loved sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Donald Carter; two daughters, Donna Jean Souder (Ken) of Johnson City, Tennessee and Debbie Anne Carter (Ed Kreiling) of Marshall; one son, Robbie Lester Carter of Canton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; Charlie Cook, "cousin, brother, and son"; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Matt Rhea officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
