Thursday morning, October 13, 2022, the cool winds on the Mountain blew gently as crisp Fall leaves fell to the ground. Something besides the leaves was changing, and the Mountain was opening up to guide and encourage all those around. Clusters of leaves rustled together as if whispering, "She’s coming! She’s coming!" And then, Nadean O. McArthur peacefully passed away early that morning, with family at her side, to begin her next journey.
Born on July 31, 1936, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, Nadean Ann Orr was the daughter of LaVaughn Haver Orr and Dr. James Starl Orr. Her natural gift of a deep, soulful love for animals, the arts, and people grew early and quickly. Nadean devoted her life to supporting and helping animals of all sorts, fellow humans in need, and the world of musical and theatrical performance and the arts in every genre.
What made Nadean memorable and especially "unforgettable" wherever she went? She was KIND, GENEROUS, especially FUN, and had the most BEAUTIFUL mane of GORGEOUS gray hair—always perfectly coiffed! Her smile was infectious, and she smiled daily and often. Nadean’s gift of befriending strangers over the years, wherever her journeys took her, provided her a treasure trove of special friendships and relationships with people from every walk of life. In her last days she kept commenting, "I had no idea I had so many friends!" She was touched deeply by the outpouring of love, cards, messages, visits, and phone calls from so many people, all wanting to make sure she knew just how much she was loved and appreciated.
Nadean’s family and friends will miss her tremendously, and look forward to celebrating her life on Saturday, October 29th at 3 p.m. at Wells Events & Reception Center, 33 Wells Events Way, Waynesville, North Carolina.
