Myrtle Russell

Waynesville – Myrtle Ellen Russell, 90, of Waynesville passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.  Born in Cold Springs of Madison County, Myrtle was a daughter of the late Jessie and Hama West Plemmons.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2017 by her husband of 68 years, Billy Vinson Russell and sister, Allene Swanger.

Myrtle attended Spring Creek School and retired from Haywood County Hospital after 33 ½ years as a dietary aide supervisor. She enjoyed growing apples, gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church where she and her husband, Billy were founding members.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Russell (Linda) and Gary Russell (Debbie) both of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Russell (Miranda) Afton Murray (Nathan) and Kayla Cacicia (Zach); five grandchildren, Logan and Levi Russell, Halie, Norah, Murray and Maddie Cacicia; one sister, Wayco Ketner of Waynesville; one brother, Gene Plemmons (Bobbie Jean) and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home, 296 North Main Street with Dr. Mark Golden officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m.  Burial will follow the service at Bethel Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church building fund.

The care of Mrs. Russell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Waynesville.
