Montez Peterson Blevins, 94, of Waynesville, NC died August 25, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Rabe and Katie Peterson of Burnsville, NC. She was a resident of Haywood County for 64 years. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Philip Paul Blevins of Waynesville, NC, a son Kevin Blevins of Robbinsville, NC, a granddaughter Emma Grace Morrow of Waynesville, NC, a brother R.M. Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, and a sister Anna Kathryn Bailey of Burnsville, NC.

She was a long-time member of Long’s Chapel Methodist Church, and she loved her Long’s Chapel Methodist Link 2 Women’s group. Montez was the costume repair/seamstress for Ghost Town in the Sky in the 1970’s. She also spent many years working in retail sales on Main Street in Waynesville. Montez worked at Red Wing Gift Shop, Hales, Youngs Shoes, Whitewoven Handweaving, and Gatekeepers Gift Shop well into her 80’s. She enjoyed the hustle and bustle of working on Main Street and helping people.

Montez is survived by her daughters Siri (Frank) Hoover of Robbinsville, NC, Tara Blevins of Waynesville, NC, Deah (Joseph) Branson of Canton, NC, 6 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Long’s Chapel Methodist Church, 133 Old Clyde Rd. Waynesville, NC 28785. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Pastor Chris Westmoreland will be officiating.
