With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mildred Ruth Love, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on May 10, 2026, in Candler, North Carolina. Born on March 12, 1942, in Monroe, North Carolina, Mildred was a radiant soul whose life was marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for others.
Mildred was a graduate of Mount Pisgah Academy in 1961. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life—she was a devoted member of the Mount Pisgah Seventh-Day Adventist Church since her baptism. Committed to serving the Lord, she found joy and solace in reading the Bible and nurturing her spiritual walk.
A vibrant and fun-loving woman, Mildred’s warmth and humor were the heart of every family gathering. She delighted in telling jokes and pulling playful pranks, crafting memories filled with laughter and love. Her passion for life extended into her love of nature, where she tended her greenhouse and garden with love and care. Her African violets and orchids were more than flowers—they were a symbol of the happiness and peace she cultivated within.
Mildred's compassion was boundless. As the owner of Family Care Homes and DDA Homes, she managed six residences dedicated to housing and caring for adults with disabilities. Her commitment to providing safe, loving environments was recognized internationally when she was named in Who’s Who Worldwide, a testament to her extraordinary devotion.
She was known for caring deeply, not just in her career but in every facet of life. It was often said that she cared more for others than for herself, a reflection of her generous spirit and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and empathy.
Mildred is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Renee Fowler of Candler, and Viche Castleberry (William Leslie Castleberry) of Candler; cherished grandchildren, Quinnon Williams Fowler of Girard, Ohio, and Nicholas Gabriel Castleberry of Candler; her beloved brother, John Donald Lee "Donnie" Love (Roberta "Robbie") of Monroe; and dear sister, Mary Jean Love Frank of Bothell, Washington. She also leaves behind treasured nieces and nephews: Emily Love Dillworth (David), Chizé Love, Zane Love (Angie), Chris Love (Melissa), Sarah Love, and Heather Frank, along with her extended family who hold her in their hearts.
Mildred was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Orin Lee Love and Virginia Eve Mullis Love; her brother, Zane David “Zeke” Love; and her sister, Esther Evelina Love.
Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate Mildred Ruth Love’s remarkable life through services planned with heartfelt care. A local visitation will be held at Wells Funeral Home in Canton, 3715 Asheville Highway, Canton, NC 28716, on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at Longs Grove Advent Christian Church, 8514 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Pastor Art Stone will be officiating.
Mildred’s legacy is one of light, laughter, faith, and unquenchable love—a beacon to all who knew her. Her memory will forever bloom in the hearts she nurtured, much like the vibrant flowers in her happy garden. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love she so generously gave throughout her days.
