Michael Layman

Michael Douglas Layman, age 54, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at VA Medical Center in Asheville. Mike was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of Oscar Layman, Jr. and Virginia Ivey Layman of Bethel. Mike was a Christmas tree farmer and owner of Mike's Produce in Marion. He was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church and a United States Air Force veteran serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Michaela Layman and fiancé, Christopher Rudisill; a son, Ryan Layman and his wife, Shea Layman, of Canton; and two brothers, Robert and Rick Layman all of Bethel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Canton Central Untied Methodist Church with the Reverend David Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made in his honor to Hospitality House, 612 East Marshall Street, Richmond, VA 23219, or to a charity of personal preference.
