Melvin Culbreath, Jr.

Waynesville, Melvin Owen Culbreath, Jr., age 75, passed away on January 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Eve Culbreath and parents Melvin Owen Culbreath, Sr. and Lily Beatrice Barnes Culbreath (Bee). Mel was born October 6, 1933, in Tampa, Florida, and moved to the Western North Carolina area in 1991. Mel was president of Caney Fork Community Development Center, Cullowhee, NC; and member of the Nantahala Hiking Club, Otto, NC. He was currently a member of Macon County Computer Users' Group, Franklin, NC; Asheville/Buncombe Computer Users' Group, Asheville, NC; secretary-treasurer, Laurel Woods Subdivision Property Owners' Association. Mel is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara Frame Culbreath, Waynesville, NC; son, Michael Lee Culbreath, New York, NY; sister, Laura C. Henry (Laurabee) and husband, Leonard T., Odessa, Florida; sister, Dinah C. Wayne and husband, Alan A., Flowery Branch, GA; step-son, Jeffery A. Karup and wife, Shannon, Arden, NC; step-daughter, Jennifer Karup Brenner and husband, Henry, Tampa, FL; stepson, Jonathan A. Karup, Waynesville, NC; niece, Lisa Henry Doherty and husband, Rob, Decatur, AL; nephew, Leonard T. Henry, Jr., and wife, Alisa, Riverview, FL; nephew, Alexander A. Wayne and wife, Shannan, Flowery Branch, GA; nephew, Daren C. Wayne and wife, Kris, Flowery Branch, GA; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Blount Curry Funeral Home, 605 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL with interment following at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, W. Kennedy Boulevard and S. Church Street, Tampa, FL. Family will receive friends at the home of Jennifer and Hank Brenner. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution in memory of Melvin Owen Culbreath, Jr. be made to Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery Trust, Bank of America Trust Department, P.O.
