Melba Willis Goodyear

Melba Willis Goodyear, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Elizabeth House in Henderson County, NC. She was born on August 24, 1923, in Hampstead, Arkansas to the late Claude and Ruth Clark Willis.

Throughout her life, Melba brought joy and happiness to those around her. Her career as an Administrative Assistant in retail sales allowed her to interact with countless customers, always sharing her warm smile and kindhearted nature. Additionally, for over 25 years, Melba diligently delivered The Mountaineer newspaper to the community she cherished.

Melba's commitment to her community extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was an active member of Rockwood United Methodist Church in Canton, NC. Her faith was an essential part of her life, giving her strength and guiding her actions. Melba found solace in the embrace of her church family.

The memory of Melba Willis Goodyear will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She touched the lives of many during her time on Earth and leaves behind an enduring legacy.  In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye and Bonnie; and four brothers, Herschel, Troy, Paul, and Dale.

Melba is survived by two nieces, Annette Paxton (Terry), and Sheila Hannah, and one nephew, Cecil Willis.  She is also survived by many loving great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and three great-great-great nieces and nephews.  The were all blessed with her presence throughout their lives. She impacted them deeply with acts of wisdom, kindness, and unconditional love.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Rockwood United Methodist Church with Reverend Eric Hill and Reverend Steve Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road, Canton.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 at Rockwood United Methodist Church prior to the funeral service.
