Waynesville, Melba Gladys Batten Faircloth, age 99, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Pigeon Valley Nursing Home.
A native of Montgomery County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles Gus and Vipa Maude Johnson Batten. In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Daniel F. Blake and William Faircloth; two brothers; and four sisters. At the young age of 14, Melba began working at Capel Rug Company. She was a florist for over 40 years and up until age 90, she provided flowers for the Sunday services of all three churches in Rowland. She was a member of Rowland Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and catering. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her beautiful wedding cakes and cheese wafers. The staff at Pigeon Valley will always remember Melba for her gracious and sweet personality.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Blake and his wife, Barbara, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, John Faircloth of Roanoke, Virginia and William J. "Bill" Faircloth, Jr. and his wife, Corinne, of Waynesville; two sisters, Miriam Russell of Albemarle, North Carolina and Clara Jane Farmer of Colorado.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Rowland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Charles Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
