Maxine Faye Smith, 85, of Asheville passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022 at her residence.  A native of Big Pine, NC, daughter of the late Collie and Nola Sutton Payne.  Also preceded in death by her husband, David Smith who died in 1988; daughter, Debbie Smith; sister, Marie Sutton and brother, Bobby Payne.

Maxine earned her CNA Certification from Blue Ridge Community College.  She retired after 15 years from Piccadilly Cafeteria.  Socially active, she loved music and hosting social gatherings at her home. She loved baking and gardening. She was a collector and huge Atlanta Braves fan.

Survived by her daughters, Vivian Aldibs and Dianne McCoy; son, Glenn Smith; brothers, Leonard Payne and Alfred Payne; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022 in the Wells Chapel of Faith, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, NC.  Mike Seimens will officiate. Inurnment will immediately follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The care of Mrs. Smith has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Candler.
