Waynesville

Mattie Sue Rowe "Sue" of Waynesville, NC passed away in Hendersonville, NC on November 10, 2025. Sue was a cherished resident of The Bridge of Lakepoint Landing Assisted Living at the time of her passing.

Sue was born to James Carter Wells and Flournoy West Wells in Lynnville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Jerry Rowe), son (Mike Rowe) and her 7 siblings: Mary, Ruth, Tommy, Howard, Jane, Bonnie and Carol. She is survived by her daughter; Lisa Mayer, and son-in-law (Brett Mayer), her grandchildren, great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sue was a devout Christian who will always be remembered by all who knew her for her gentle, sweet spirit. She was always kind to others leaving a lasting impression and example of what a true Christian should be. She loved her family above all else.

The supportive anchor of her family, Sue was a homemaker, bookkeeper and gardener who loved to cook, read and (her greatest pleasure), spend time with family. She was a graduate of Jones County High School in Lynnville, TN, later moving to Maryville, TN where she shared a beautiful life with her husband of over 60 years. They raised their children in Maryville and attended First United Methodist Church. Sue volunteered tirelessly throughout her time with her church family there, representing her commitment to a life of serving others. They later moved to Thomasville, GA and ultimately relocated with her daughter to Waynesville, NC to be surrounded by the beautiful mountains she so adored.

Per her wishes, a private memorial service commemorating Sue's beautiful soul will take place at a later date.
