Mary "Nornie" Sims

Crabtree Community, Mary Norman Dean Sims, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021, at her residence.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina and a resident of Haywood County for 43 years, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Johnnie Blalock Dean.  Nornie was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Upper Crabtree.  She loved the mountains and enjoyed sipping coffee on her front porch.  She delighted in meeting new friends and keeping up with old ones.  Her family was her pride and joy, especially her grandchildren.  Despite her health struggles, Nornie always maintained a contagious positivity and hopefulness.

Nornie is survived by her husband, of 52 years, Jeff Sims; two daughters, Hanna Hagaman, and her husband, Scott, of Marion and Jennifer Sutton, and her husband, Ryan, of Clyde; sister, Mitchell Cotton, and her husband, Dwight, of Kipling, North Carolina; uncle, Thomas Blalock, of Raleigh; and four grandchildren, Laurel and Ben Hagaman and Jackson and Jake Sutton.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Wells Events & Reception Center.  A Celebration of Life will be held this summer at Topsail Beach, North Carolina.

The care of Mrs. Sims has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
