Mary Vehorn

April 20, 1929 — March 2, 2023

Asheville

Mary Omie Bond Vehorn, 93, of Asheville passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Emerald Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  A native of Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Jim Tom and Etta Mae Nelms Bond. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her life partner, William Emory; son, Robert Lee Sawyer; brother, J.T. Bond; sister, Ora Mae Wooten and daughter-in-law, Deborah N. Sawyer.

Mary was raised in Asheville and graduated from Lee Edwards High School.  She retired from Patla, Straus, Robinson & Moore, PA where she had worked most of her life as a legal secretary.  Family bonding and card games were some of Mary’s favorite pastimes, she loved playing Yahtzee and was avid about her NY Times word puzzles.  A real wanderlust, she enjoyed traveling.  She was a member of VFW Post 891 in Asheville.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including, Teresa Ingle and her husband, Ronnie of Asheville, Beverly Wooten of Mooresville, NC and Patricia Moore of Kingsport, TN

Private entombment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 891, 626 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806.

The care of Mrs. Vehorn has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
