Mary Toney

Mary “Gail” Wheeler Toney, 73, of Arden passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center.  A long-term resident of Western North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Graham Thaxter and Mary Register Wheeler.

Gail worked in various local offices as a receptionist over the years.  She was an avid needle pointer, dabbled in silk flower arrangements and bird watching especially hummingbirds. She loved to plant beautiful, colorful flowers, especially those that would draw hummingbirds to her garden.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Kenneth Toney; one daughter, Christina Hunter and her husband, David of Weaverville and one grandson, Tate Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Wells Chapel of Faith in Candler.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
