Mary Price

Waynesville, Mary Jo Price, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 surrounded by her family.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Martha Gentry.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, J.D. Price, who died in 2011; and two brothers, Jack and Robert "Bub" Gentry.  Mary’s heart and soul resided with her family.  It did not matter day or night, Mary was always focused on her children.  She will be remembered for her love of shopping, long conversations on the phone, and holidays gathered around the dinner table. Mary was patient, kind and occasionally played practical jokes on her grandkids.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Jackie Mashburn (Stanley) and Cathy Sutton, of Waynesville; one son Gary Price (Dorothy), of Athens, Tennessee; one sister, Jimmie Jo Whitner, of Canton; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Brandon and Joe Price, Sherry and Courtney Mashburn, Angie Crisp and Mark Huston; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Mary also leaves behind her sweet cat, Foster.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Price has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
