Mary Jo Grasty, born on August 29, 1931, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Garrett and Maggie Messer Grasty; sisters Frances Clark, Hilda Russell, Sarah Ledford, and Martha Boring; and her brother James Grasty.

Mary Jo devoted 40 years of her career to Dayco, where she worked with commitment in the automotive belts division. Her steadfast work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Beyond her professional life, Mary Jo was a devoted member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, where her faith was a guiding force throughout her life.

Known for her green thumb and nurturing spirit, Mary Jo took immense joy in gardening. Her beautiful hanging baskets and potted plants were a testament to her love of nature, bringing vibrant life and color to those around her. She was also skilled in the art of canning, preserving the fruits of her garden with care and expertise. Family and friends often gathered to enjoy the delicious cakes she lovingly baked, a favorite that remained a treasured memory for many.

Mary Jo is survived by her sister, Effie Donaldson, and her brothers, Fred Grasty (June) and Billy Grasty. 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Reverend Mike Shuford officiating.  

Mary Jo Grasty’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love, perseverance, and generosity of spirit. Her legacy endures in the hearts of her surviving family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered with deep respect and fondness, an extraordinary woman whose impact will continue to resonate.
