Mary James

"1930 – 2016" Asheville – Mary Alice Crawford James, age 85, formerly of the Bethel community in Canton, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Lou McElreath Crawford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Breness James, who died in 2000 and a daughter, Debbie Howell. Mary Alice was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a daughter Jeannie Williams of Asheville; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 2, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
