Mary “Michelle” Hopkins, age 68, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and made her home in Jackson County, where she built a life centered on family, service, and love.

Michelle is survived by her devoted husband, Sam Hopkins; her beloved sons, Michael Hopkins (wife Kristy), Matthew Hopkins (wife Deidre), and Luke Hopkins; and her cherished grandchildren, Alannah, Briar, Rylee, and Blythe, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Donna, Annette, Lisa, and Tony, as well as her uncle, Bill Aloisio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mary Lou Aloisio.

Michelle retired from Jackson County Local Government, where she worked in the Finance Department, serving her community with dedication and integrity. Outside of work, her greatest joys were her family, her animals, tending to her garden, and spending peaceful days on a creek or river bank, fishing—one of the places she felt most at home.

Michelle could almost always be found on an athletic field somewhere, proudly cheering on her children and grandchildren. She was their biggest fan and constant supporter. Known for her warmth, kindness, and the most infectious smile you have ever seen, Michelle had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved.

Her legacy lives on through the family she adored, the lives she touched, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
