Mary Henderson Blalock

Mary Henderson Blalock, 87, of Canton passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, at Haywood Regional Medical Center surrounded by her six children and several granddaughters.  A native and lifelong residence of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Mollie Henderson.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lacey Blalock; grandson, Jason Tilley; great-granddaughter, Gracie Jane Tilley; five brothers, Carroll, Calvin, Buddy Joe, Edward and Roy Henderson; two sisters, Glenda Gravett and Linda Mason and her children’s father, Jack M. Blalock, Sr.

In the early seventies, Mary worked at Penn School for several years and retired from Steelcase in 2002 following 23 years of service.  A wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was very loved and will be missed terribly by all who knew her.

She is survived by her six children, Keitha Blalock of Canton, Kathy B, Corley of Asheville, Jay Blalock and his wife, Martha of Canton, Kim B. Hensley of Hickory, Michael “Elmo” Blalock of Canton and Krista B. Pennington of Weaverville; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren (with one expected in May) and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Hicks officiating.  Interment will follow at New Bon-A-Venture Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to the dedicated staff at Silver Bluff village for their loving care to Mary.

The care of Mrs. Blalock has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes Canton.
