Obituary

Mary Ann Gollwitzer Ehn, age 81, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at Mission Hospital.

Mary was born on July 20, 1944, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Claude Ehn and Myrtle Ehn. She spent her early years in Wisconsin before later making her home in Maggie Valley, where she became a cherished member of the community.

A lifelong educator, Mary devoted her career to shaping young minds as a teacher. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and attended Alverno College in Milwaukee. Mary taught in the Maggie Valley school system, where she was known for her dedication, compassion, and love for learning.

Mary was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, where she remained active in her church family. She found joy in Bible study with friends, was an avid reader, and enjoyed participating in book club. She also loved the mountains, which brought her great peace and comfort as she hiked often.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Gollwitzer; her son, Daniel Gollwitzer; and her brother, Robert Ehn.

She is survived by her son, David Gollwitzer (Sheila); six grandchildren, Andy Werchowski, Hannah Gollwitzer, Jeremy Gollwitzer, River Gollwitzer, Meadow Gollwitzer, and Lance Gollwitzer. Mary will be remembered with love by her family, friends, former students, and all who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time.

The family of Mary Ann Gollwitzer has entrusted Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with her care.
