Mary Gaddis

"Loving wife, mother & grandmother" Canton – Mary Ellen Messer Gaddis, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 7, 2013. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Thad Bryson Messer, Sr. and Zora Conard Messer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Fain Gaddis; one sister, Lois Rubena Holland; and one brother, Charles Edward Messer. Mary Ellen enjoyed gardening and playing the organ and piano. She was a member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, of 56 years, Robert Joseph Gaddis; two daughters, Keva Gaddis Wilson and her husband, Gary, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Lora Gaddis Sherrill and her husband, David, of Clyde; one sister, Judy Messer Grant and her husband, Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant, of Sylva; two brothers, Thad Bryson Messer, Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Canton, and Richard Messer and his wife, Judy, of Penrose; five granddaughters, Dana Gaddis, Lauren Wilson Nelms, Haley Wilson Evans, Alex and Katie Sherrill; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jada, and Eli. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Reverend Allen Blanton and Reverend Dr. J.D. Grant officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
