Asheville - Mary Jo VanWinkle Freeman, 65, passed peacefully in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Licking County, Ohio but a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Henry Hugh and Mary Louise Grooms VanWinkle. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Freeman, who died in 1991. Mary Jo was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend who would help anyone in need. She loved to crochet, needlepoint, garden and cook.
She is survived by three children, Shelia Wilke and husband, William "Bill", of Canton, Charles Wild, Jr. and wife, Christie, of Marion, and Jacqueline Wild of Green Cove Springs, Florida; two sisters, Judy Ann Schaeffer and husband, Stephen, of Huron, Ohio and Roxie Louise Blakley and husband, Stanley, of Parma, Ohio; one brother, Henry Hugh VanWinkle of Augusta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Megan, Crystal, C.J., Shawn, Samantha, Justice, Kia, and Madison; four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Conner, Remington, and Makenna; and her dog, Daisy.
A private memorial service will be held.
