Martha Jane Swanger

Martha Jane Swanger, known for her dedication to her family, church, and community, passed away on April 8, 2024. Martha was born in Haywood County on June 26, 1962, to Glenn and Bertha Putnam.
 
Martha led a fulfilling career working in Accounts Payable at Dayco and then Day International before retiring. However, her true passion was being a mother and second lied within the walls of Jonathan Valley Baptist Church. She devoted her time as the church secretary, diligently took care of the Prayer Chain, and ensured the well-being of the congregation by preparing meals with love and care.
 
Described as kind and welcoming, Martha's warm personality touched the lives of all who knew her. She cherished her family dearly and found joy in spending time with them. Martha's hobbies included reading, socializing with friends as a social butterfly, and embracing the beauty of nature outdoors.
 
Martha is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Michael Swanger; devoted son Matthew Swanger and his fiancée Michaela; caring sisters Wanda Parton (Ricky) and Glenda Stewart (Steven); supportive brother Ted Putnam; as well as nephews Trevor Parton, Steven Putnam, and Samuel Stewart.
 
In her lifetime, Martha also experienced loss and is now reunited with her parents Glenn and Bertha Putnam in heaven, along with her infant son Joseph Swanger.
 
Services to celebrate Martha's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, 2024 with the Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Bobby Downs officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
