Canton – Martha Grooms King, 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Dolphus Daniel and Imogene Gibson Grooms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jack C. King, who passed in 2011; three brothers, Norman Grooms, Carroll and Bruce Kuykendall. Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. In her earlier years, she and Jack were camp hosts at the Davidson River Campground.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca MacEmcy and husband, Dennis, of Canton; one son, Danny King and wife, Debbie, of Waynesville; one grandchild, Kevin Seay; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kevary Seay; sister-in-law, Martha Grooms of Canton; a dear cousin, Betty Russell and husband, Robert, of Waynesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Douglas Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
